“Know that there is no finish line; fortune favors action. Race balls-out toward the extraordinary life that you’ve always dreamed of, or still haven’t had time to dream up. And prepare to have a hell of a lot of fun along the way.”

Sophia Amoruso

Years ago, the thought of working from home was just as big of fantasy as hitting the lotto. To be able to find legit employment that can be done from the comfort of your home, was damn near impossible. Until now.

🤍

Here we are in 2019 and the ‘work from home’ job market is pretty much booming. And it is growing more + more every single day. The point is…

If you want to work from home. You can.

However, you may want to consider some of the downsides of telecommuting. The benefits of working from home are pretty obvious.

Let’s name a few, just for fun:

* You get to work…FROM HOME, Helloooooo

* Many jobs allow you to set your own schedule

* Save on gas, work attire, coffee/lunch breaks etc.

* Work independently ( no one micro-managing you )

* No pressure of boss or co-workers

With that being said, there are definitely some downfalls when it comes to working from home. Because anything that good, of course, has to have its disadvantages, right? Ok, so what are the sucks about working from home?

Let’s break it down.

🤍

(1) You MUST be Good at Technology

Working from home means that you are most likely going to be working on the computer the majority of the time. Your training and all of the information you are going to need to succeed in that position, is going to be sent via the internet. At least 95% of the time.

Not only are you going to have to stay on top of your emails, but you are going to have to independently follow the detailed instructions that will be sent to you. There will be no one standing beside you, walking you though, it will be you + only you. So being comfortable navigating the internet is key.

🤍

(2) You Need a Quiet Work Space

When the thought of working from home comes to mind, one may think that money can be made, while the kids are running around making loud dinosaur noises. And please do not get me wrong, there are plenty of positions where you can make money, just like that.

Like blogging 🙂

However, the majority of work from home jobs are going to require you to have a quiet designated workspace. If you are going to be taking calls from home per se or even working through a chat portal, you must stay focused, and calls are usually recorded. This means the people you work for will be monitoring your calls and actually will hear the loud dinosaurs in the background. This could be grounds for termination. Yikes.

(3) You Can Become Anti-Social

A great thing about traveling to work is that you meet so many great people. Well, maybe some, not so great. But, you meet people. Period.

When working from home, it is just you and the PC usually. Everyday. So it can definitely get a little lonely. Sure, most positions allow you to choose your own schedule. However, between your job, kids, partner, and housework, your day is pretty much full.

Just as it would be if you traveled to work.

Working from home is absolutely an incredible opportunity that was never a possibility years ago. Being able to save time + money on commuting brings a huge sense of relief to the entire family.

When thinking about working from home, making sure you have the proper resources in place is much needed for assuring your success with the company.

Just because you do not have a boss looking over your shoulder, does not mean that there is still not someone looking. Oh, there is.

Any job that you are working on from home is just as important as if you were in front of the company’s CEO. As a matter of fact, jobs that allow telecommuting are even usually more strict on their workers because of how easy it is to become complaisant without any supervision.

To be able to work from home is a blessing many would give anything to have. Treating it as such is the key to a successful journey.
